Summer 2022 Mask Mandate
Members of the University community,
It has been more than a month since the University’s indoor masking requirements were modified, and more than two months since we resumed full, in-person operations. Once again, I want to thank all students, faculty, and staff for everything you have done to ensure that the return to campus has taken place in a safe and respectful manner.
In consultation with the Health, Safety and Wellness team, senior academic and administrative leaders, and others, and given the latest public health indicators, a further change to our masking protocols will soon take place.
Effective Wednesday, June 1, the University will shift to an optional mask-wearing environment in all areas of campus.
Current indoor masking requirements in classrooms, lab and studio spaces, and the University Library remain in place until May 31. Mask wearing is no longer required in any indoor spaces as of June 1, but will be encouraged and welcomed in all areas of our campuses. We anticipate many people will choose to continue using them. Additionally, masks will be provided as needed on campus.
Vaccination rates among members of our campus community have been high throughout the pandemic; improvements to air exchange systems and ongoing monitoring of ventilation remain effective; and rapid antigen test kits are readily available. All of these measures contribute to the safety of our campuses. It is also important to stay home if you have tested positive for COVID or are not feeling well. Furthermore, everyone is strongly encouraged to get vaccinated and boosted when eligible to do so.
As we have done since the beginning of the pandemic, the University will monitor and assess potential risks, and will adjust our practices as needed moving forward.
