7.1.1 President’s Annual Objectives/Assessment of President’s Performance
Date initially approved: June 28, 2017
Date revised: June 2025; June 24, 2026
7.1.1.1 The Chair of the Board of Regents shall coordinate the development of the President’s annual performance objectives in consultation with the Corporation of Owners and the Executive Committee, which includes the President. The performance objectives will align with the current strategic plan of the college and will use a standardized format that includes measurable outcomes and timelines. The Board of Regents will review and approve these objectives at the Annual General Meeting. See suggested performance objective categories in Appendix A.
7.1.1.2 The Chair of the Board of Regents, in consultation with the Corporation of Owners and Executive Committee, will facilitate the annual assessment. The annual assessment shall normally take place prior to the Annual General Meeting, with results summarized in an in-camera session at the AGM. A survey of the Board of Regents and the College (Faculty, Staff and Students) may be used to inform, but not determine, the final assessment. Any survey will be developed and administered by the Chair, in consultation with the Executive Committee. Elements in the assessment instrument will be closely connected to the current strategic plan and will include, at a minimum, the following criteria:
A. Progress with and within the goals and objectives set forth by the annual performance objectives, Board polices, strategic plan, and the annual operational plan.
B. Submission of timely reports to the Board of Regents on relevant issues and annual compliance requirements set forth by legislative agencies.
C. Adherence to responsibilities outlined in policy 3.3 Mandate for the President.
Should the assessment identify substantial areas for improvement, the Chair may request the President to submit a development plan addressing these areas as soon as practicable.
The President shall provide the Board of Regents with a written summary of progress against the established criteria outlined in 7.1.1.2 twice annually, once at the last scheduled Board of Regents meeting prior to December 31, and once at the Annual General Meeting.
Performance documentation shall be maintained by the Board Secretary and will not be distributed outside of the Executive Committee and Board of Regents.
In extraordinary circumstances, the Chair and President may mutually agree to amend timelines or assessment criteria, with approval of the Executive Committee and notice to the Board of Regents.
