Expression of Interest – Apostolic Experience

CAMPION COLLEGE IS ACCEPTING EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST FROM MEMBERS OF THE SOCIETY OF JESUS FOR AN UPCOMING APOSTOLIC EXPERIENCE

ABOUT THE COLLEGE

Founded in 1917, Campion College is a Catholic community of learning at the University of Regina. The College’s mission is to develop the whole person – intellectually, spiritually, and socially – for service within society through an education in liberal arts and sciences in the Jesuit tradition. Campion College is the only undergraduate Jesuit university-college in Canada. It serves the advanced education sector in the southern region of Saskatchewan, located at the Treaty 4 Land, and it is federated with the University of Regina.

HISTORY OF JESUITS AT CAMPION COLLEGE

The Jesuits of Regina have served at Campion since 1917 when it was first incepted at a variety of ministries: Professors, instructors, chaplains, administrators and ministers of sacraments. In their Ignatian tradition and spirituality, these Jesuits have historically inspired a pioneering Catholic education, ethos and a way of proceedings in higher education to form the whole person into a global citizen for the service of others. The integrity of education, the vocational calling of each person, and the search for God in each context have been part of Campion College’s efforts for reconciliation. The recent calling for the national Truth and Reconciliation with the Indigenous nations is an urgent challenge of our time, given the historical hurts of colonialism in Canada.

THE NEED FOR JESUITS AT CAMPION COLLEGE

Given the constant changes in an ever-demanding high-tech society, the global Church apostolic needs for qualified Jesuits, along with the decline of the number of young men into the religious life of the Society of Jesus, Jesuit qualified academic educators and researchers are urgently needed at Campion College. The recruitment of highly qualified Jesuits for academic and administrative positions is not just a priority, but an urgent institutional priority to keep Campion College effectively, in its Identity and Mission, in the service and formation of others.

The Mission at hand is highlighted by today’s Society of Jesus’ calling of the Universal Apostolic Preferences to accompany the marginalized; it is inspired by the ecclesial calling of Synodality to learn from others’ contexts and traditions. These values put Campion College at a new frontier of relationships from which to serve and leave an impact on our graduates. The Mission work of our college keeps evolving around its core Jesuit Identity in the engagement with liberal studies to broadcast what is true and to find what is sustainable before limited resources. Jesuits who discern to work at Campion College will be engaged in forming young men and women, empowering them to pursue their passions to serve others.
