Message from the Bishop of Qu'Appelle

Welcome to Regina, Saskatchewan, to the Diocese of Qu’Appelle, and to the Treaty 4 and Treaty 6 territories, the traditional lands of the Cree, Saulteaux, Assiniboine and Métis.
It is indeed an amazing privilege to host this auspicious gathering.  What started out as dream has become a reality!  I thank the Anglican Church of Canada and the Roman Catholic Church in Canada for providing the seed money to make this gathering possible.  It is an unexpected outcome and extension of the Covenant relationship between the Archdiocese of Regina and the Diocese of Qu’Appelle signed in 2011.  For the past seven years we have prayed and worshipped together, held workshops and study sessions, and encouraged joint activities between our parishes.  As we come to know each other, make friendships and experience the gifts of the other tradition, we make progress towards the unity that Christ wills for his Church.
As we gather in Christ’s Name at this conference to discuss, debate and hear ecumenical presentations, I pray that our time together will aid our understanding of the unique role the diaconate has in our Church.  I thank God for the renewal of this holy order and  pray that the ecumenical work we do this weekend will raise the profile of deacons in our church and provide a vocational stimulus and greater vision for the diaconate in the world today.
